0427-nepalquake

Over 4,000 lives have been lost and 6,500 injured so far in the terrifying 7.8 magnitude earthquake which struck north central Nepal on Saturday, April 25th. Vast tent cities have been built around Nepal’s capital Kathmandu for those residents unable or afraid to return to their homes.

According to UNICEF, nearly 1,000,000 children are in need of aid, and the relief efforts have been hampered by poor infrastructure and an airport unable to handle the number of people fleeing the devastation and the arrival of rescue teams from all over the world.

Kathmandu residents are terrified by the continuing aftershocks and many have not slept for two nights. Power is out in the capital and food supplies are hard to find.

Serrv has longstanding relationships with 4 partners in Nepal (Mahaguthi, Craft with a Conscience, Get Paper Industries, Association for Craft Producers, and Kumbeshwar Technical School).

From our partner Mahaguthi:

Dear friends, partners and well wishers… I tried to reach most of families and friends… glad that they are fine… but number of casualties are in raise.. total blackout for indefinite time… probably our office may come to halt for few days… prayers to all…
